Scout spent the first 4 years of her life not caring at all what she wears.
I know a lot of little girls start having an opinion at a much earlier age about what they wear, but Scout just didn't care. And I for sure didn't mind either.
That is until recently she learned about "Fashion"
Apparently 'Fashion' is very serious business.
There is no exact science to 'Fashion,' but somehow Scout has it figured out, and there is no arguing with her about what is, and what isn't 'fashion.'
Getting dressed is a little bit tricky these days, because she has 2 outfits that she insists are 'fashion,' (neither of which are cute), so by Wednesday, when both these outfits are in the laundry, she has a come-apart because nothing in her closet is adequate 'fashion.'
It has taken a little bit of creativity to convince her that some articles of clothing are in fact 'fashion.' We have looked up numerous times on the Internet to see if we can find pictures of ___________ (Fill in the blank) in a 'Fashion' picture. For example, the other day we had to see if we could find a picture of a 'fashion girl' wearing black and pink shoes (without sparkles), because Scout insisted that her shoes were not fashion since sparkles were not involved.
Oh boy. . .
Just another reminder that my little Scout is growing up.
My favorite part of this whole 'Fashion' protocol, is the 'Fashion Test,'
How Scout determines whether or not something is 'Fashion:'
She doesn't mess around:
#1. Pick clothes, but first mess up all the clothes in her dresser
#2. Lay clothes out on floor
#3. Lay on top of clothes, and decide if 'Fashion'
This outfit passed the test.
I know this is just a stage, and soon we will be onto something new, but I hope I always remember Scout and her determined little personality when it comes to clothes. It makes me smile every time I hear her talk about 'Fashion,' and I can't bring myself to tell her that she isn't even using proper English. She has the rest of her life to say 'fashionable,' so for now, I love our 14 year old Scout in a 4 year old body, and her very own 'Fashion.'
Thank you so much for the cute Easter cards. My boys loved getting something in the mail. We will have to write back. Hope you all had a Happy Easter.
