When you find out you are going to be a parent, there are a few things you look forward to. . .
And seeing your child in their first uniform is one of those things!
Tonight was Scouter's first soccer game, and it was a success.
Well, we probably should use the term 'success' lightly:
It was a 'success' as there were no tears, no fights, and no injuries, but
All the girls were asking when it was time for treats 15 seconds into the game.
And most of the game was spent kicking the ball the wrong direction.
Asking for treats again 30 seconds into the game, and again 45 seconds into it.
And there was a little bit of complaining about legs that were too tired to even walk.
BUT,
Despite the fatigued legs, never ending asking about treats, and the little mass of 4 year old girls all within 3 inches of eachother. . .
The Golden Eagles pulled off a big "W!"
And their coach (uhhh, Me) could not be happier!
Trust me, this coaching gig was not my idea, but, they were desperate, they must have been really desperate.
It has only been a couple weeks of practice, but there have already been a lot of "What am I doing?" moments. But I just keep reminding myself, and to quote my dad, 'they are getting what they paid for' (which is nothing), so they can't expect too much. So far not too many tears (on my part, or the kids), and I'd rather fulfil the 'mom coach' position now while they are 4 instead of when they are 10!
I was about ready to throw the towel in on our first practice when 10 minutes into it, I had Scout sitting down mid-field, crying, and saying, "See Mom. This is why I hate soccer!!!"
Not sure if that is worse to hear as a 'mom' or worse as a 'coach?' Either way, I knew it might be a long 8 weeks.
But, look at our little athlete, made it through the whole game, and even said she loved it!
Little girls in shin-guards and bouncing ponytails has got to be my new favorite sport to watch!
Way to go Golden Eagles (which by the way, was not Scout's choice, she wanted Golden Butterflies, but quickly got outvoted because butterflies are not fast as eagles.)
She loves her pink cleats, but thinks shin-guards are sweaty and gross. I'm with her on that one!
