Poor, Poor Cookies!

It has been a pretty busy/crazy/stressful week here,
so this morning I woke up and decided I was just going to 'Be A Mom' today...
I was not going to let any other concerns or responsibilities get in the way.
It was going to be a great day.   Just Scout, Porter, and I.

It started off great.  Scout woke up early, so she and I read some books, colored a bit, painted nails, and had our hot chocolate and toast together.

Then we busted out the shaving cream, paint, and cardstock, and got working on a little Easter craft.
Later, in between cleaning paint off our table, floor, walls, and sink, and playing Hungry Hippos,
I tried to remember to relax, and just simply enjoy holding this poor sick little boy.
Poor Porter is going on 2 weeks of feeling crummy, with fevers on and off, a runny nose, and the infamous 'Utah Hack' cough.  All he wants is to be held, every second of every day.
So today, I was going to give him just what he wanted... to be held.
Then, before I knew it, we had a knock on the door, and surprise visitors.
Quickly our day went from holding and Hungry Hippos to making cards, whipping up some cookies, riding bikes, and having kids run in and out of the house.  To having the car fixed, lots of phone calls, and delivering cards and treats to friends.
Which meant he got put down:
And despite the great efforts of these two girls (this is what was gong on behind the camera):
We still had one grumpy little boy on our hands.
My day quickly changed direction, and I have learned again and again, that that is just the name of the game of being a mom.  Not a bad day at all, in fact it was a really good day, just busy.

But, there was one serious victim from our day becoming busy.
Very serious.  And very sad. .   .

Not one.  Not two. Not even three, but FOUR burned batches of chocolate chip cookies!!!
Utter Travesty!
Those 9 minutes in the oven fly by when you are chasing kids on bikes, bandaging boo boos, and in having conversations with everyone walking by outside.
By the end I was even setting a timer on my phone so I would remember, and still burned the cookies!!!

I have got to learn to make the cookies late at night, with no distractions.  It is the only way I can pull them out of the oven on time.

I do have to admit, the highlight of my day was getting a phone call from my little brother who just got his wisdom teeth out, and was all hopped up on drugs.  SO Funny!!!!  I have never been told I am loved so many times.  And my favorite part was that he was convinced the doctor took off his chin.  It is going to bring me the giggles for weeks!
