Oh... How Does Your Garden Grow?. . .
Well.
Pretty small and puny in St. George's red rock mud,
But at least it's growing.
We are at a whopping 4 inches tall, and from this point,
I am sure it will all shrivel up and burn in the sun,
But,
I like to play pretend that we might actually produce a crop of two peas this year.
If the kids are each able to pick a single thing, I'll be happy.
Sometimes (most likely like this garden) you need to set your expectations low,
so there is little room for disappointment.
I had this great idea of planting a garden in our luscious 4 square feet of land, right next to the eye-pleasing cinder block wall (it's a beauty, isn't it?). I pictured Scout and I spending quality 'mom-daughter' time together, talking about how cool it is that Heavenly Father gave us seeds, and how incredible they can grow. And me being able to blow her mind with the vast 30 seconds of gardening knowledge that I possess. It was going to be a great first Malufau garden.
Ummm,
It may have been a little harder than I expected, with not quite the expected results.
It literally took me 2 weeks just to get the 3,000 rocks out, (and sneakily dispose of them over our neighbor's wall... just kidding).
As I am cursing the rocks, and piles of deceiving looking cat poop (which I kept assuming were rocks, as I picked them up with my hands), I kept telling myself it would all be worth it. . . for the kids, of course.
Well,
She planted maybe 4 seeds until she asked if she could go ride her bike instead.
First 'Garden Mom Moment': Fail
And her only interest in watering is if Porter is outside too, and she knows she can squirt him.
Half fail.
Now that they are growing a bit, she does like to show anyone who will take the time to walk in the back, and for her sake, I sure hopes something... anything will grow.
So glad Scout has grandparents with good gardens.
Maybe she'll see pictures like this when she is older, and just assume it is from her garden:
If nothing else, at least I don't have to look at a rock pile out back as I'm doing the dishes... and luckily, I still have that eye candy of a cinder block wall.
Whew! Thank goodness for that!
Everyday I try to remind myself that it is okay I traded my kitchen view from this:
To St. George Cinder block! :)
